About
Education & Experience
Ms. Orla McCormack trained at UCD and Mater Misericordiae University Hospital, where she worked as an intern and basic surgical trainee. She then completed a two-year laboratory based M.D. at UCD on biomarkers in breast cancer. She entered higher surgical training in Ireland focusing on oesophagogastric surgery in the latter two years of training.
Having been awarded a completion certificate she went to the Princess Alexandra Hospital in Brisbane, for a one-year international fellowship in thoracoscopic and laparoscopic oesophagogastric surgery. This was followed by a six-month fellowship at the Gold Coast University Hospital in bariatric endocrine and upper gastrointestinal laparoscopic procedures.
She was then appointed as a consultant at the Royal Infirmary Hospital in Edinburgh and spent a year performing oesophagogastric, general and complex hernia surgery. She was appointed to the Royal Marsden Hospital in London in 2016 as an oesophagogastric cancer surgeon. She spent almost two years in this world-renowned cancer centre prior to returning to Ireland as a general and upper gastrointestinal surgeon.
Special Interests
Her areas of interest are benign and malignant oesophageal and gastric conditions and abdominal wall herniae.

She has presented at many national and international conferences and is widely published with more than 30 peer reviewed journal articles.
