About

At Mater Private Network, we recognise that our nursing staff play a pivotal role in providing comprehensive, compassionate care to our patients. Their dedication, expertise, and profound commitment to their profession are truly remarkable.

We are proud to recognise the exceptional efforts of our nursing staff through the DAISY Awards. These awards celebrate and recognise our nurses through nominations from patients, families, and co-workers for the valuable work they do, care they provide, and compassion they show to their patients and colleagues each day.

These awards, which have been adopted by thousands of hospitals worldwide, were launched by Tena Barnes following the death of her husband Patrick. In 1999, Patrick was diagnosed with the autoimmune disease ITP (Immune Thrombocytopenia). He spent eight weeks in Seattle Cancer Care Alliance at the University of Washington Medical Centre receiving care for the condition. During this time, Tena and the Barnes family witnessed kindness and compassion from the nursing staff who cared for Patrick and were inspired to recognise this through the DAISY Awards.
