Education & Experience
Ms. Ailín Rogers is a Consultant General and Colorectal Surgeon at Mater Private Network, Dublin.
Ms. Rogers graduated from UCD with honours (MB BCh BAO, 2007) and completed her surgical memberships (MRCS) before pursuing a PhD with UCD and Yale University, which she was awarded for her work on gastrointestinal physiology in 2013. With RCSI, she then completed higher surgical training in general and colorectal surgery with a strong focus on colorectal cancer, achieving Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons of Ireland (FRCSI, 2019). She completed a fellowship in robotic surgery and multivisceral resection of advanced colorectal cancer (Royal Marsden Hospital, London, 2020-21).
She returned to Ireland in 2021 to reunite with her husband and young family and take up a consultant appointment in Our Lady’s Hospital Navan and the Mater Misericordiae University Hospital, where she is the Clinical Lead for Surgical Oncology and Assistant Clinical Professor with University College Dublin. In November 2023 she joined the team in the Mater Private Network Dublin.
Special Interests
Her specialist areas of interest include colorectal cancer, especially in younger patients, in locally advanced and metastatic cases, and in those requiring multivisceral or extended resection. She is fellowship trained in advanced robotic and laparoscopic surgery, for benign and malignant lower gastrointestinal problems, minimally invasive surgery, proctology including treatment of anal fissures and fistula, and diagnosis and treatment of rectal bleeding. Her skillset also includes diverticular disease management, colonosopy/endoscopy and hernia repair surgery as well as other general surgical procedures.
Clinical Research & Professional Memberships
Ms. Rogers has a strong research pedigree with postgraduate qualifications in statistics, leadership and healthcare economics, over 50 peer-reviewed publications, and two book chapters. She has presented nationally and internationally on more than 60 occasions, and has been awarded over €260,000 in grant and prize funding. She advocates for her peers as the past-president of the Irish surgical training group and has a keen interest in mentorship and career guidance for aspiring surgeons. She is the secretary of the Irish Association of Coloproctology and the Republic of Ireland representative for the Association of Coloproctology of Great Britain and Ireland.
