No. All scans in radiology require a written referral from a medical practitioner registered in the Republic of Ireland or Northern Ireland who meet the criteria in SI 256 2018 and SI 30 2019.
No. We do not accept referrals for children under the age of 16.
Yes, it is essential that you arrive at least 30 minutes early for your appointment to allow for screening and check-in.
No. Your scan will be reported on by a consultant radiologist and the result will be sent directly to the doctor who referred you for the scan.
Yes. You can send an email requesting your images to xraycdrequests@materprivate.ie for a copy of your imaging. You should provide your name, date of birth, hospital number (if known) and the date and type of scan. Please specify if you wish to receive a hardcopy CD or digitally via email.
If you have an appointment with a Mater Private consultant you DO NOT need to bring a copy of your images to your next appointment, as they are immediately available for the consultant to view on our hospital's picture archiving communications system (PACS).
Mater Private in Dublin offers a walk-in service for X-ray only: Monday – Friday from 8am to 4.30pm.
Mater Private in Cork offers a walk-in service for X-ray only: Monday – Friday from 8am to 6pm.
Mater Private Day Hospital in Cherrywood and Northern Cross do not offer any walk-in services currently; services are on an appointment-only basis.
You must have a referral from a doctor for an x-ray and you must bring it with you. Please be advised that you will have to pay for your x-ray at the time of your appointment. You may be able to reclaim some or all of costs on any health insurance outpatient benefits or via a medical expense tax reimbursement claim.
