Prof. Osama Soliman (MD, PhD, FACC, FESC) is a Professor of Precision Cardiovascular Medicine & Innovation at RCSI University of Medicine and Health Sciences; Deputy Director of Cardiovascular Research Institute (CVRI) Dublin, Mater Private Network; Director of Precision Cardiovascular Medicine & Innovation Institute (PCMI) at CVRI, Mater Private Network; Chief Medical and Scientific Officer at PRECISE Core Lab, CVRI Dublin; and Consultant Cardiologist of Advanced Cardiovascular Imaging and General Cardiology at Mater Private Network. 

 

Education & Experience

Prof. Soliman is an internationally recognised consultant cardiologist with more than 27 years of clinical and academic experience. He specialises in advanced cardiovascular imaging, structural heart disease, and heart failure management. He has led groundbreaking research and patient-care initiatives in multimodality imaging, clinical trials, and imaging core laboratories, significantly contributing to global advances in cardiovascular medicine.

Prof. Soliman has held leadership roles at institutions such as Erasmus MC and Cardialysis (the Netherlands), as well as the University of Galway (Ireland). He currently serves as Deputy Director of the Cardiovascular Research Institute (CVRI) Dublin, a collaboration between Mater Private Network and RCSI that focuses on outcomes research, clinical trials, core laboratory services, and systematic reviews. 

Prof. Soliman’s professional qualifications include: 

  • Medical degrees and training: MBBCh, MSc, and Cardiovascular Medicine training at Al-Azhar University, Cairo.
  • Doctoral work and postdoctoral clinical research fellowship: PhD in Cardiovascular Medicine at the Thoraxcenter, Erasmus University, Rotterdam.
  • Certifications: American Board certifications and Level 3 accreditation in Cardiac CT, Cardiac MRI, and Adult Echocardiography.

Special Interests

Prof. Soliman is at the forefront of integrating digital twin technology and artificial intelligence to personalise cardiovascular care. He believes that interactive digital solutions will empower patients to make informed decisions about their health, potentially transforming evidence-based care pathways for complex cardiovascular conditions.

He leads an international consortium aimed at refining risk stratification in right heart failure, an area with limited therapeutic options. His team has developed innovative post-LVAD (left ventricular assist device) risk stratification tools and recently secured a prestigious European Innovation Council (EIC) Transition Grant. This grant supports the development of a revolutionary mechanical heart pump (HeartWise) poised to offer life-saving support and potential recovery for patients with severe cardiac dysfunction.

 

Clinical Research & Professional Memberships

With over 400 peer-reviewed publications and book chapters in major cardiovascular textbooks, Prof. Soliman has spearheaded pivotal clinical trials such as RECOVER HEART, EEVAD, UCARE, and INCEPTION. His research integrates advanced imaging and AI-driven analytics to improve outcomes and empower patients with actionable data.

As a founder and leader of several Imaging Core Labs worldwide, Prof. Soliman’s imaging methodologies have underpinned major industry-led and investigator-initiated trials in cardiovascular medicine over the past two decades.
