About

Education & Experience  

Prof. Martin Buckley qualified from UCC in 1989 and, after an internship at the Mercy University Hospital, did his medical SHO training in Dublin. He worked as a gastroenterology registrar in a number of Dublin hospitals and was lecturer in medicine at Trinity College Dublin. He did a fellowship in therapeutic endoscopy in Nice, before being appointed consultant gastroenterologist at Tallaght Hospital, Trinity College Dublin in 1998. He was appointed consultant gastroenterologist/senior lecturer in clinical medicine at the Mercy University Hospital Cork in 2004. He has worked at Mater Private Hospital in Cork since 2013. 

Special Interests  

His main interests are diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy, quality of care for patients with GI disease, inflammatory bowel disease, functional GI disorders, GI physiology and the detection and endoscopic treatment of premalignant GI diseases. 

Clinical Research & Professional Memberships  

Prof. Buckley is the author of over 50 peer-reviewed article and written over 20 book chapters. In 2013, he was appointed to the American Gastroenterology Association Academy of Educators and in 2014 was awarded a fellowship of the American Gastroenterology Association and the American College of Physicians.
