About
Education & Experience
Professor Andrea Lorente is a full-time Consultant Neurologist at Mater Private Network, Dublin.
Prof. Lorente previously worked at King’s College Hospital London-Dubai, UAE. Prior to this, she worked for over 13 years at Canary University Hospital, Spain, where she completed her official residency programme for specialization in neurology, alongside a rotation at Trias i Pujol University Hospital in Barcelona.
She obtained her Medical Degree in 2006 from the National University of Cuyo, Argentina, with her final clinical practices completed at Manacor Hospital in Mallorca, Spain.
Prof. Lorente holds a Fellowship of the European Board of Neurology (FEBN) and two Master’s degrees: one in Neuroimmunology from Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona and another in Movement Disorders from Murcia University. She is certified in Neurosonology for the Spanish Society of Neurology.
In addition to her clinical roles, she is Adjunct Clinical Associate Professor at Gulf Medical University in the UAE, and Neurology Faculty Member for the Internal Medicine Residency Programme at King’s College Hospital, London-Dubai.
For 9 years she has been a Neurology Tutor for medical students and Teaching Assistant for neurology residents and other specialties at the University of La Laguna, Spain.
Special Interests
Prof. Lorente specialises in the management of headaches and facial pain, employing advanced treatments such as biologics, nerve blocks, toxin injections, among others.
She also provides expert diagnosis and treatment for multiple sclerosis and other demyelinating diseases, as well as post-stroke follow-up care and management of cerebrovascular disease. She performs Eco-Doppler of intra- and extracranial vessels, pre-operative assessments for cardiac and thoracic surgeries, PFO, ultrasound-guided lumbar punctures, optic and peripheral nerve assessment, etc.
In addition, she manages a wide range of general neurological disorders, including epilepsy, movement disorders, CNS inflammatory and infectious diseases, sleep disorders, dementia, ataxia and neuromuscular disorders.
Clinical Research & Professional Memberships
Professor Lorente has contributed to fMRI and Parkinson’s disease research. She has presented her work at numerous regional, national, and international congresses. She has authored publications in several peer-reviewed medical journals and contributed chapters to Neurology textbooks.
She was a member of the Care of Patients with Acute Ischemic Stroke Committee for several years and has served as a board member for ISO certification accreditation in acute stroke care.
She is member of the American Academy of Neurology (AAN), Spanish Society of Neurology (SEN), Demyelinating Disease Group (SEN-GEED), Cerebrovascular Group (SEN-GEECV), Canary Society of Neurology (SOCANE) and Spanish Society of Neurosonoloy (SONES) since 2009.
