About
Education & Experience
Ms. Sinead Byrne B Med Sci (Pharm), MSc ( Hons), MRCOphth, FRCSI (Ophth), FRSCEd (Ophth), FEBO is a Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon.
Ms. Byrne graduated from UCD in 1997. She was awarded a Bachelor of Medical Science in Pharmacology and the Kirwan Medal in Ophthalmology by UCD the same year. She then undertook an MSc at UCD, with her research focusing on vascular changes in glaucomatous eyes for which she was awarded an MSc (Hons) by the National University of Ireland in 1999. She also received the Sir William Wilde Medal for this work, awarded by the Irish College of Ophthalmologists.
Special Interests
Her clinical interests include cataract surgery (needle free and local anaesthetic), glaucoma (including SLT), neuro-ophthalmology, lid surgery, dry eye disease and general ophthalmology.
Clinical Research & Professional Memberships
Ms. Byrne completed her basic surgical training in ophthalmology in Ireland (Dublin and Waterford) before moving to the United Kingdom in 2002 where she undertook her specialist registrar and sub-specialty fellowship training. Sinead is a member of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists, a fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland and Edinburgh and the European Board of Ophthalmology. She is a member of the European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons.
