About
Education & Experience
Mr. Long qualified from National University of Ireland, Galway in 1999. He was awarded a masters degree (MMedSci) from the National University of Ireland, Galway in 2003. He was also awarded a second masters degree, a Master of Surgery degree (MCh) from Universtiy College Hospital, Dublin in 2004. Following completion of his basic surgical training in 2002 he pursued a career in urology, gaining both clinical and academic experience prior to entering a 6 year higher surgical training programme in 2006. This saw Mr. Long working in all the major urology centres in Ireland.
Mr. Long was conferred with his fellowship, FRSC (Urol) in 2010. He completed his higher surgical training in Urology in 2012 and then undertook a year-long fellowship in the world-renowned University Clinic of Leipzig.
Mr. Long was appointed as a consultant urologist in the Royal Liverpool and Broadgreen University Hospital Trust in 2013. During his tenure in Liverpool, he was the lead testicular cancer surgeon for the Merseyside and Cheshire region as well as North Wales, which had a combined population in excess of 2.5 million people. He also developed a further sub-speciality interest in the treatment of kidney stones during this time.
Mr. Long is the lead Consultant Urologist at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda, and sees patients privately at Mater Private Network's Day Hospital in Northern Cross and Outreach Clinic in Drogheda.

Kidney stones, urological cancers (kidney, bladder, prostate, testicular), male and female lower urinary tract symptoms, haematuria, urinary tract infections including cystitis, penile/scrotal disorders, incontinence and chronic pelvic pain.
Clinical Research
Mr. Long has over 20 peer-reviewed publications and has been a reviewer for many international journals. He has been involved in full-time laboratory research and in clinical research, completing urological theses and degrees in both areas.
Mr. Long has won an international award for his laboratory-based research from the European Society of Urological Research and was also awarded a British Urological Foundation Scholarship.
He has published and presented his work nationally and internationally, and has been invited as a speaker at numerous international conferences.
