About

Education & Experience 

Mr. John P. Gibbons is a Consultant Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgeon at Mater Private Network, Dublin.

Mr. John P. Gibbons originally trained as a mechanical engineer with specialist interest in biomaterials. He transitioned to medicine, returning to complete a post-graduate medical degree in Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland where he graduated with a 1st Class Honours and a medal in surgery. He then undertook his basic and higher surgical training in Ireland, obtaining his Fellowship in Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgery in 2019. Mr. Gibbons then completed a 6-month fellowship in Musgrave Park, Belfast under the supervision of Prof. David Beverland. In 2021 he completed a 1-year Lower Limb Trauma Fellowship in the Level 1 Trauma Centre in Christchurch Hospital, New Zealand. This was followed by a year in lower limb arthroplasty in North Shore Hospital, Auckland, New Zealand with a focus in computer navigation and robotically assisted surgery, and soft tissue knee surgery.

 

Special Interests 

Mr. Gibbons has specialist interests in total hip, total knee, and partial knee arthroplasty, particularly in the use of robotic assisted surgery for which he was certified during his fellowship in North Shore Hospital, Auckland, New Zealand. He has also trained in soft tissue knee surgery including ACL reconstruction and meniscal surgery.

 

Clinical Research & Professional Memberships 

Mr. Gibbons has multiple peer-reviewed publications in Trauma and Orthopaedics as well as numerous national and international conference proceedings in the field. He has been supervisor for multiple successful Masters candidates as well as successful in numerous research grants. He holds professional memberships with the Irish Institute for Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgery (IITOS), British Hip Society (BHS), and the American Association of Hip & Knee Surgeons (AAHKS).
