About

Education & Experience 

Dr. Shamindra Gerald Direkze, MB PhD BSc (Hons) MRCP (UK, Gastroenterology) is a Consultant Gastroenterologist and Hepatologist at Mater Private Network, Dublin.

Dr. Direkze is a graduate of the prestigious MB PhD programme at University College London. He completed a PhD in oncology alongside his medical degree and went on to complete his specialist training in gastroenterology, hepatology and advanced endoscopy in the London Deanery. His training included posts at King’s College Hospital Liver Unit, University College London and the Royal Free Hospitals in the UK. Since coming to Ireland he has held consultant posts at the Mater Misericordiae University Hospital and St Vincent’s Hospital before entering full time private practice. In 2024 he joined Mater Private Network in Dublin as a Consultant Gastroenterologist and Hepatologist.

Special Interests 

Dr. Direkze’s special interests include hepatology and the assessment and treatment of a range of liver diseases including biliary and pancreatic disease.  He is also interested in endoscopic treatments for upper and lower gastrointestinal diseases, and bowel cancer screening. 

Clinical Research & Professional Memberships 

Dr. Direkze’s PhD Oncology (UCL) was for laboratory-based research into the molecular mechanisms of cancer development, with several published papers based on this research, as well as national and international presentations. He has an MRCP (Gastroenterology) having completed specialist exams in the UK and is a member of the Irish Society of Gastroenterologists, Royal College of Physicians of Ireland.
