About
Education & Experience
Dr. O’Brien graduated from UCD School of Medicine in 2007. He completed his higher specialist training in cardiology in Tallaght University Hospital, University Hospital Waterford, Beaumont Hospital and Mater Misericordiae University Hospital. Subsequently, he completed clinical fellowships in cardiac genetics and electrophysiology in the Mater Family Heart Screening Clinic/Mater Misericordiae University Hospital in 2019 and advanced cardiac electrophysiology in the Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital in 2020.
Special Interests
Dr. O’Brien has a special interest in catheter ablation of atrial and ventricular arrhythmias and cardiac device implantation and management.
Clinical Research & Professional Memberships
Dr. O’Brien has been first and co-author on a number of scientific publications and worked as a sub-investigator on a number of international clinical trials. While working in Liverpool, he was lead researcher in novel techniques of catheter ablation for atrial fibrillation. He maintains European Society of Cardiology and European Heart Rhythm Association membership.
He delivers undergraduate surgical teaching to UCC and is a vascular surgical trainer for postgraduate surgical training for RCSI.
