Mater Private Network Unveils €1 million Investment in Expanding Radiology Services

Location: Dublin

Mater Private Network is proud to announce the installation of a new cutting-edge CT scanner at our flagship hospital on Eccles Street. This significant upgrade replaces a decommissioned machine and represents a €1 million investment in advanced medical technology and patient care.

The new CT scanner, the Somatom X.cite, is a single-source CT system developed by Siemens. Mater Private Network is the first hospital in Ireland to employ this advanced technology, underlining our commitment to providing best-in-class care to our patients. As part of the investment, the CT room has been fully refurbished to enhance both functionality and patient comfort.

Enhanced capacity and advanced procedures

With the addition of the new machine, we now have three advanced CT scanners across Dublin, including two at our main hospital and one at our Day Hospital in Northern Cross. The increased efficiency of the new system will significantly reduce waiting times, allowing patients to access CT appointments within days and reports to be available within 24 hours. The new scanner also enables our radiology team to focus on using the second CT scanner in Eccles St. for specialised cardiac imaging.

The enhanced capabilities of the Somatom X.cite also enables a wider range of procedures to be carried out by our team of consultant radiologists, who have expertise across all subspecialties. This includes CT-guided biopsies and CT-guided injections, which were previously challenging to accommodate. This development ensures that both inpatients and outpatients receive the best possible diagnostic and interventional services.

Patient-centricity

The Somatom X.cite features a patient-friendly design with a larger opening and mood lighting options to enhance patient comfort and overall experience. Colour-coded guidance for breathing instructions and in-room design features allow radiographers to set up scans at the patient's side, maintaining close contact and support throughout the procedure. The new scanner's advanced technology ensures much quicker scan times, resulting in shorter appointments for patients.
