Education & Experience
Mr. Cawley previously worked as a spine surgeon at Tallaght University Hospital and the National Spinal Cord Unit at the Mater Misericordiae University Hospital. He started his surgical training in Ireland in 2005 and specialised in trauma and orthopaedic surgery from 2011-2016. His specialist spinal surgery training has taken him to world renowned centres including L’Institut de la Colonne Vertebrale, Bordeaux, from 2016-2017 and the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital, Stanmore, London, from 2017-2018.
Mr. Cawley has also received several international awards and guest fellowships in Europe, including:

- Mark Paterson/Bone Joint Journal/European Federation of Orthopaedics & Trauma Travelling Fellow Award
- British Orthopaedic Association Zimmer Biomet Travelling Fellow Award
- European Federation of Orthopaedic Research & Trauma (EFORT) Travelling Fellow
- Ethicon Travel Grant Award
Special Interests
Degenerative, deformity, tumour and trauma to the spinal column.
Clinical Research & Professional Memberships
Mr. Cawley has authored over 50 research papers which are mostly on topics in spinal conditions. He has also co-authored 4 book chapters and co-edited a book titled “Spinal Anatomy: Modern Concepts”. He is a committee member with the European Spine Society and remains an active contributor for the PatientLine resource for spine patients at https://www.eurospinepatientline.org. Mr. Cawley works in close collaboration with the department of physiotherapy at UCD and is a programme director for the spinal studies module on the UCD Master's Degree in physiotherapy.
