About

Education & Experience  

Dr. Tahira Jabeen Khan graduated from Dow Medical University, Karachi, in 1981. After gaining some years of experience in Pakistan in the field of obstetrics and gynaecology, she moved to Ireland in July 1990. She completed her training as SHO and Registrar in Wexford General Hospital, Mullingar General Hospital, Portlaoise General Hospital, St. Finnbarr’s Hospital, Ernville Hospital and the Cork University Hospital. She attained membership from the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists. The majority of her training has taken place here in Cork where she also gained experience in teaching, auditing and research. She was promoted to consultant gynaecologist level in Cork University Maternity Hospital and Shanakiel Hospital prior to joining Mater Private. 

Special Interests  

During that time she has become an established and successful gynaecologist and proficient in a variety of procedures including colposcopy LLETZ loop diathermy, cervical cryocautery, cervical polypectomy, fitting an IUCD, diagnostic laparoscopy, endometrial ablation, treatment of pelvic organ prolapse (including correction of cystocele and rectocele), oophorectomy (removal of the ovaries), tubal ligation, hysteroscopy and curettage (modern version of old D&C), Bartholin’s cyst, hysterectomy, ovarian cystectomy and fibroids. Her aim is to assess each individual’s problems in order to formulate a personalised plan of choices of therapy to best suit the needs of that person. She has a special interest in the management of women with polycystic ovaries, and women who require investigation and management of heavy periods or irregular and postmenopausal bleeding and offers surgical procedures.
