About

Education & Experience

Dr. Elisabet Sanchez-Garcia studied undergraduate medicine at Salamanca University School of Medicine, Spain. She trained in geriatric medicine at the renowned Hospital Gregorio Maranon in Madrid, specialising in cognitive impairment  (Spanish National Reference Centre of Alzheimer's Disease and Other Dementia) and frailty and sarcopenia (Hospital Ramón y Cajal, Madrid, under Prof. Alfonso Cruz-Jentoft).

Dr. Sanchez-Garcia holds a PhD from Universidad Complutense in Madrid and a postgraduate degree in clinical research methodology in Barcelona Autonoma University, Spain. She was awarded a post-residency grant Rio Hortega at the Carlos III Institute of Health and is a graduate of the European Academy of Medicine of Aging (EAMA).  

With over a decade of experience, she developed her professional career in University Hospital Ramón y Cajal in Madrid until 2022. She then moved to Cork and began working as part of the geriatric medicine department in Cork University Hospital. 

In September 2023 she joined Mater Private Network in Cork as a consultant, extending her commitment to delivering high quality geriatric care. Our mission at geriatric care management is to provide comprehensive, compassionate, and professional care services that empower our older adult clients to maximize their independence, quality of life, and well-being while keeping families informed and included. 

Special Interests

Dr. Sanchez-Garcia is particularly interested in the development and implementation of innovative healthcare models based on comprehensive geriatric assessment. 

She specialises in memory decline (as seen in dementia and mild cognitive impairment) falls and blackouts, osteoporosis and bone health conditions, and general acute and chronic medical conditions commonly seen in older people with multimorbidity and polypharmacy.

Clinical Research & Professional Memberships

Dr. Sanchez-Garcia has been honoured with the award for the best project in initiatives of humanisation in healthcare by the Royal College of Physicians in Spain in 2022. She is clinical editor of the Spanish Journal of Geriatric Society.
