About

Education & Experience  

Dr. Barry Hennigan attended UCD and graduated in 2005. He subsequently trained in general medicine in Dublin and Sydney before entering higher specialist training in cardiology in 2009 with posts in St. Vincent’s University Hospital, Waterford Regional (GIM/Respiratory), Tallaght Hospital and St. James’s Hospital.

Clinical Research & Professional Memberships  

In 2013, he relocated to the UK to train in Golden Jubilee National Hospital, West of Scotland Heart & Lung Centre, Glasgow with high volume sub-specialty fellowship training in coronary intervention. Following this he undertook a British Heart Foundation (BHF) research fellowship studying the relationship between invasive coronary physiological and cardiac MRI assessments of ischaemia and measurements of coronary flow. He and his co-investigators were awarded with a BHF project grant to fund his M.D. research study. This was subsequently presented as a “Late Breaking Clinical Trial” at EuroPCR in Paris in 2018 and was cited in the European Society of Cardiology statement on “Chronic Coronary Syndromes”. Following completion of his research he took up a post in Aberdeen Royal Infirmary as a consultant interventional cardiologist before relocating back to Ireland in April 2017. He received his M.D. from the University of Glasgow in 2019. He has authored over 30 research papers to date, presented at numerous international conferences and is an invited reviewer for many international publications.
